I use tarot and oracle cards as tools for reflection and contemplation. Rather than divining the future, they are a way for me to look more deeply at the "now."

Butting Heads

From the Tarot of the Cat People, the Five of Swords; from the Sacred Geometry Oracle, "Vesica Piscis:"
What a ridiculous looking helmet this guy is wearing with bull horns attached. He's definitely ready to butt heads with anyone who doesn't agree with him. The two leopards watch him submissively; no doubt they know the cloak he wears was from one of their clan. He takes no prisoners in his clashes, as his goal is to prove himself as intellectually superior. This kind of attitude is so prevalent today with the advent of social media. People spout opinions as facts and then get in a hysterical rage when others don't agree with them. I was reading Jack Kornfield's blog yesterday and came across a quote from Buddha that fit this situation perfectly:
Seeing misery in those who cling to views, a wise person should not adopt any of them.  A wise person does not by opinions become arrogant.  How could anyone bother those who are free, who do not grasp at any views? But those who grasp after views and opinions wander about the world annoying people.
The Vesica Piscis (the fish-like shape in between the circles) is formed when the side of one circle touches the center of the other. Instead of bouncing around like two separate bubbles, they overlap. From a Five of Swords perspective, they have taken the best of two separate views and created a third unified view. This geometric shape reminds me not to forget what is of utmost importance, the basic purpose underlying what I want to accomplish. I might not share the same opinion with someone else about how to get there, but if I keep my heart open, I can keep from skinning anyone's hide while we figure out a way to reach our common goal.

  1. This post is a great follow up of your previous one. Let's find the common denominator in all faiths, religions and philosophies so we can all live together peacefully on this tiny planet. Then the Vesica PIsces will be filled with Love

    1. That's it in a nutshell. Everyone wants their community, family, etc. to be healthy and happy. But in order to do that, we've got to stop thinking that "my" is more important than "your." As you said, love that sees below all the views and opinions is where the answer lies.

  2. That guy definitely gives a new definition to "Helmet Head".
Like the old adage goes, opinions are like ass holes, every one has one. That's normal and good. Of course the problem starts when we infringe on someone else's rights, try to make someone else think and act they way we do through force and control. I doubt that this will ever change, but we have to continue to hope and actualize that hope into action individually and collectively. That's my opinion.

    1. I agree - everyone has opinions, which is normal. But here in the States so many people's opinion has morphed into a belief, which is then transformed into a fact (thought there's no basis for it). Opinions paraded as facts will always cause all kinds of chaos. Just look at Donald Trump! :)

    2. I agree Bev. It has become much more than just opinion. Chis Hedges has so much to say about this. I think it is more than opinion, but a dangerous agenda. OMG Donald Trump...I feel your pain. We had Rob Ford the Mayor of Toronto...but much worse we've had Steven Harper for going on nine years, and has become the ruination of of country.

  3. For the last time, vikings did not have horns on their helmets! Oh, wait. Wrong conversation. ;) I learned quickly not to take myself too seriously on the internet. As you said, so many opinions going around as facts. If you aren't aware of such, you can get sucked in pretty quickly, then spit back out again. Social media can be wonderful, but it can also be a curse. (my opinion).
